Optical Gas Imaging Services

Think Environmental provides certified OGI services across refineries, chemical plants, and gas processing facilities. Our technicians are trained, certified, and equipped to deliver surveys that produce defensible data — backed by reporting infrastructure built to satisfy the most demanding consent decrees.

What We Do

IR camera surveys. Facility-wide scans across tanks, flares, pumps, compressors, PRVs, heat exchangers, process piping, loading operations, and drain systems. One survey scans thousands of components without interrupting the process.

NSPS OOOOa compliance programs. Complete fugitive emissions monitoring built around OGI — quarterly, semi-annual, or annual surveys depending on site classification, with trained operators meeting Subpart OOOOa qualification requirements, repair tracking within regulatory timeframes, DOR documentation, and annual reports formatted for direct submission.

Alternative Work Practice surveys. For facilities using OGI in lieu of Method 21 monitoring under 40 CFR 60.18 and 63.11, we provide surveys with the operator training documentation, instrument verification, and reporting needed to maintain AWP designation.

Storage tank OGI. Uniquely effective for floating roof tanks, rim seal inspections, and degassing operations. Integrates with our Tank Seals program for a coordinated inspection strategy.

Emergency response OGI. Suspected release, PRV activation, tank emergency — we mobilize across the Gulf Coast and beyond.

Why Our OGI Program Works

Certified technicians

Every OGI tech is trained and certified, with documented field hours and ongoing requalification. We maintain the operator qualification records the regulations require.

Best-in-class reporting

Quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports. OOOOa annual reports. Consent decree-specific reporting. Customer-defined KPI dashboards. Repair tracking and DOR documentation.

Integration

Findings feed into your LDAR repair tracking, Method 21 follow-up, tank seal scheduling, and fenceline root cause work. When we manage multiple programs for a facility, it all flows through one team.

Strong field management

The same supervisors who anchor our LDAR work — decades on regulated units, fluent in what inspectors ask before they ask it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is OGI the same as Method 21?

No. Method 21 uses an FID or PID at the component to measure VOC concentration. OGI uses an infrared camera to visualize hydrocarbon vapors in real time. The two complement each other, and many facilities use both as part of a layered strategy.

Can OGI replace Method 21?

In some regulatory contexts. The Alternative Work Practice in 40 CFR 60.18 allows OGI to substitute for Method 21 under specific conditions. NSPS Subpart OOOOa allows OGI as a primary method at well sites and compressor stations. We can help you determine which applies.

What's a certified OGI technician?

The regulations require documented training and demonstrated proficiency. Our technicians meet or exceed these requirements, and we maintain their certification records.

How long does a facility-wide survey take?

A small gas plant might be a single shift; a full refinery scan can take days to weeks. We scope every survey individually.
