Leak Detection Services

Think Environmental has been performing leak detection at refineries, chemical plants, and gas processing facilities since 1984. Today, our monitoring teams support roughly 130 client sites across the country, offering the full suite of detection methods backed by the same Safe Work Practices and Job Reference Material systems that anchor our LDAR program management work.

What We Do

EPA Method 21 monitoring. Our technicians are trained and certified in Method 21 regulatory procedures, monitoring across all major instrument platforms, component identification and recordkeeping, and first-attempt and advanced maintenance repairs. They understand the regulatory drivers — timing of first attempts, repair completion windows, and Delay of Repair conditions — that separate a monitoring round that holds up under audit from one that doesn't.

Acoustic leak detection. Through-valve leak detection identifies high-volume internal leaks invisible to Method 21. Cost-effective for finding leaking valves, quantifying product loss to the flare, and prioritizing repair work.

Cooling tower monitoring. Our technicians are trained on the Appendix P El Paso Method and operate El Paso boards built to government specifications. We provide routine cooling tower monitoring, heat exchanger monitoring at the frequency your RSR or MACT obligations require, and cooling tower and flare line sample pulls for lab analysis.

How We Execute

Certified technicians

Every monitoring tech is trained, certified, and signed off on the specific instruments and procedures used at your site. No exceptions.

Documented procedures

Our Job Reference Material (JRM) system bridges corporate procedures with your site-specific requirements. Every technician follows the same documented process, every time.

Calibration discipline

Pre-shift calibration, response factor verification, daily drift checks — all documented, all retained. Our database team reviews calibration records before reports go out.

Repair tracking

First attempts within five days. Final repairs within fifteen. DOR documentation when warranted. We track every component through the full repair lifecycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Monitoring only, or full program?

Both. Many clients hire us for field monitoring only. Others use us for full program management — monitoring, recordkeeping, database, and reporting.

What instruments do you use?

Our technicians are trained on all major Method 21 platforms. We coordinate on preferred equipment and provide our own when needed.

How often do you monitor?

Depends on the rule. NSPS Subpart VV/VVa, Refinery MACT, HON, and others each have their own frequencies — quarterly, monthly, weekly, or daily. We design the schedule to match your applicability.

Short-notice mobilization?

Yes. We routinely mobilize for turnarounds, post-construction inventory work, and emergency response.
